Mammoth Springs is not a spring but a large area consisting of many springs spread over 2 main basins, through which one can walk, snow-shoe, or cross-country ski. Palette terrace was just around the corner from the parking lot but immediately we were immersed in surreal scenery enhanced by tangential sunlight filtered through steam. At least one whole day is required to fully appreciate this place.

Winter was perfect for visiting Yellowstone. There's more steam from condensation in the cold air, the snow-covered landscape has a a lot of character, and so do frosted trees.
